Soil-Enzymes and Antioxidants Activities of Edible Vegetables Grown in Soils Polluted by Gas Flaring

چکیده

Associated gas flaring has several consequences on the environment. This study was aimed at assessing impact of soil enzymes and plant antioxidant activities from flare-bearing communities in Nigeria. Soil samples were obtained farmlands Ukwa West Izombe sites, as well unpolluted site Olokoro (used control). The level urease, dehydrogenase, phosphatases, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) selected plants (Gnetum africanum [GA], Piper guineense [PG], Gongronema latifolium [GL], Pterocarpus mildbraedii [PM]) evaluated using standard methods. results showed that urease significantly higher (P < 0.05) than control soil. Dehydrogenase (DHA) phosphatases recorded for compared with control. For plants, superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione S-transferase (GST) peroxidase (GPx) a significant all assayed site. GPx GA PG not > when control, except PM GL which decrease GPX SOD activities, respectively. catalase enzyme also decreased grown Ukwa, while an increase seen overall variability is indication ecosystem are altered by stress load pollutants could serve bio-indicators ecological risks bioremediation.

Lead, Cadmium and Nickel Contents of Vegetables Grown in Industrially Polluted and Non-polluted Areas of Bangladesh

The levels of lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), and nickel (Ni) in spinach (Spinacia oleracea), tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) and cauliflower (Brassica oleracea) and in the rizosphere soils of the industrially polluted (Konabari, Gazipur; Keranigonj, Dhaka), and non-polluted (Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute-BARI, Gazipur) areas were studied. Four samples from each area were collected durin...

Soil Washing for Remediation of Non Volatile Hydrocarbon Polluted Soils

This paper illustrates the possibilities of applying what is essentially a physical soil-washing technique for treatment of soil contaminated by semi-volatile hydrocarbons in order to reduce the level of pollution to that permitted by Italian regulations. The ground around a factory producing lubricating-oil additives consists of silty-sandy soils, which have long been contaminated by heavy hyd...

Antioxidants of Edible Mushrooms.

Oxidative stress caused by an imbalanced metabolism and an excess of reactive oxygen species (ROS) lead to a range of health disorders in humans. Our endogenous antioxidant defense mechanisms and our dietary intake of antioxidants potentially regulate our oxidative homeostasis. Numerous synthetic antioxidants can effectively improve defense mechanisms, but because of their adverse toxic effects...

Heavy Metals in Edible Vegetables

The levels of four different heavy metals [cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), chromium (Cr) and copper (Cu)] were determined in various vegetables [leek (Allium ampeloprasum), sweet basil (Ocimum basilicum), parsley (Petroselinum crispum), garden cress (Lepidium sativum) and tarragon (Artemisia dracunculus)] cultivated around Sanandaj City. The contributions of the vegetables to the daily intake of heavy...
